THE JACKDAW THE DEVIL'S HIGHWAY MORTIMER WEST END READING, BERKS RG7 2AD |
|
The TE2914, AV SYSTEM "COMBI" UNIT |

The Combi is a 2U rack mounting unit that provides the following functions:
LOW LEVEL CONTROL
Control of the power outlets is by front panel push button or by any number of external contact closures or open collector drives. Any "ON" command turns on the equipment but an "OFF" command may only request the turn off. The response to the turn off request depends on the mode of operation selected, as determined by rear panel switch settings or by connector linking. If open loop time-out mode is selected, the delay can be set to any time in the range 40seconds to 40minutes by the rear panel control.
Front panel indicators show the current status ("POWER ON" or "SHUTTING DOWN") and corresponding TTL level signals and LED drives are available for external control equipment or user control panels.
A volt free contact pair is provided to give a PC "sleep" facility. The contacts close momentarily at the turn-off request and can be used to put ATX PCs into "Sleep" mode.
MAINS OUTLETS and OPERATING MODES:
The rear panel has 3 BS1363 13A sockets:
- "PERMANENT"
(OUTPUT 1)- "CONTROLLED"
(OUTPUT 2) and- " DELAYED"
(OUTPUT 3)
The PERMANENT output is always ON (assuming power is being fed to the unit).
The CONTROLLED output is turned on by the front panel switch or external command.
Following a repeat depression, ie a request to turn off, or an external off command, there are 3 alternative modes of CONTROLLED output turn off behaviour, C1 – C3:
|
Mode C1 |
turn off immediately on request |
|
Mode C2 |
turn off a fixed time after the request (settable 40s to 40min) |
|
Mode C3 |
turn off only after an external verify signal has been received |
The DELAYED output turns on a few seconds after the controlled output.
There are 2 alternative modes of DELAYED turn off behaviour, D1 – D2:
|
Mode D1 |
turn off a few seconds after the turn off request, |
|
Mode D2 |
turn off a few second after the Controlled output turns off |
Each rear panel Power Outlet has an indicator to show when power is on.
Each of the three outputs can be loaded to 12A continuous, but the total load should not exceed 13A.
The controller is capable of controlling any type of load that can be connected to a standard 13A outlet. The outputs are switched by zero crossing SCR type Solid State Relays which give good symmetry and and a single cycle surge rating of 150A and so can be used with transformer loads and equipment with high inrush currents.
VIDEO GENERATOR
The Video Generator provides two simultaneous outputs to the rear panel BNC sockets, one a Black PAL I standard video signal ( no colour burst) and the other a choice of two monochrome test patterns.
The black signal provides a pseudo source for quiescent video projectors, so keeping timebases synchronised to a broadcast type source and keeping the image clamped to black.
The two monochrome patterns are
Selection is by the rear panel piano key switch.
The test signal provides a confidence check and allows white purity, picture size, horizontal linearity, brightness, contrast and focus to be set-up for broadcast type sources.
LOW VOLTAGE DC POWER OUTPUTS
Three dc Power Outputs are provided
The 12V output will switch with the controlled mains output, but the 15V and 5V outputs are always on.
The 12V output is available on the 2.1mm low voltage connector and a Klippon 2-part connector. It is current limited and a short circuit will not affect the operation of the controller.
The 15V and 5V outputs are available on Klippon 2-part connectors.
NOTE: i) The total loading from all three sources should not exceed 700mA.
ii) None of the supplies is isolated from the Control or Video Generator circuitry.
CASE DESCRIPTION
The all aluminium case is 2U high and is designed for rack mounting. The rear panel of the TE2914 is clear anodised with black legend. The front panel is black anodised with silver engraved legend, but other finishes and custom legend can be supplied if requested. The overall depth of the unit is 160mm excluding mating connectors.
ACCESSORIES
The TE2914 is supplied with a 2.5m mains cable fitted with a BS1363 13A plug, fused at 13A, and with mating "D" range and Klippon connectors.

| Status Outputs: | Two LED
indicators in front panel on/off button (Green "Power ON" plus amber
"Shutting Down")
Status and LED drive lines on "D" connector and corresponding Klippon connectors. Status outputs are 470R from 5V. LED drive outputs are 330R from 5V ( ie 10mA into a typical single LED). Each Power Outlet has an adjacent green LED which indicates when power is present. |
| Power Up Condition: | The Power Up Condition is switched outlets OFF (ie the state after any significant mains supply interruption will be OFF). |
MODE SELECTION
The different modes of operation can be selected by the MODE switch located lower centre of the rear panel. This has four piano style keys numbered 1 to 4, left to right. Keys 1 to 3 are concerned with Power Control and key 4 selects the Video generator pattern. Each switch is ON (=closed) when down. In the table X = don’t care.

CONNECTOR PINNING:
NOTE:
- A line title preceded by an exclamation mark denotes an active low function, e.g. !ON = a contact closure or logic 0 input causes a power ON.
- ALL Klippon 2 part connector pins are numbered RIGHT to LEFT as viewed looking onto the rear panel. All are 3.5mm types.
- LED DRIVES are 330R from +5V (approx 10mA for std LED).
- STATUS outputs are 470R from +5V; 1=high=ON.
- If external control of POWER MODE is required, MODE switches Sw1+Sw3 must be OFF (The MODE would usually be fixed in a given installation and so can be normally be selected by the switch settings).
